Vietnamese parliament approves president's resignation

The National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam approved the resignation of President Vo Van Thuong. This information was provided by the portal Vietnamnet.

The decision was made at an extraordinary meeting of parliament. Also on March 20, the Central Committee of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam supported the resignation of Vo Van Thuong. He was appointed to the post of President on March 2, 2023 and served in this position for a little over a year.

According to the country’s constitution, the National Assembly is the highest legislative body and has the power to appoint and dismiss the leadership of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

It is noted that Vo Van Thuong violated some provisions of the party charter, which caused a negative reaction from the public. As a result, he submitted his resignation, which was approved at a meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Vo Van Thuong was born on December 13, 1970 in Vinh Long Province in southern Vietnam. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy with a major in Marxist-Leninist Philosophy from Ho Chi Minh City University in 1992, and then received a Master of Philosophy from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities at Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City in 1999. He held various positions in the Vietnam Communist Youth League, worked in local party organizations, and was elected to the National Assembly in June 2007.
