US strikes six Houthi drones over Red Sea

CENTCOM reports strikes on six Houthi drones over the Red Sea

The American military attacked six drones of the Shiite Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) ruling in northern Yemen over the Red Sea, RIA Novosti reports citing the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

As specified, the strikes were carried out at 6.50 and 9.50 am local time in Sanaa (the same as Moscow).

As a result of the attack, five Houthi UAVs fell into the Red Sea, and one flew deep into Yemen, into areas controlled by the Houthis. The attack was justified by the fact that drones allegedly pose a direct threat to the United States, the coalition and merchant ships in the region.

It was also reported that the Houthis struck the Huang Pu, a Panamanian-flagged ship owned by China, which resulted in minimal damage and the resulting fire was quickly extinguished.

The ruling Ansar Allah (Houthis) movement in northern Yemen currently controls a significant part of the Yemeni Red Sea coast. In response to Israel’s operation in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis announced plans to attack any ships associated with Israel. A number of shipping companies have decided to suspend transportation through the Red Sea.
