The State Department called reports that Blinken blocked the G7 statement untrue

The US State Department does not confirm reports that Foreign Minister Antony Blinken opposed the publication of a statement by the Group of Seven (G7) condemning the presidential elections in the Russian Federation.

According to media reports, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken prevented the adoption of the G7 statement with condemnation of the presidential elections held in the Russian Federation, in which they were called a farce. There has been no official confirmation of this information.

However, Deputy Chief of the US State Department Press Service Vedant Patel said that he had not seen this message and did not consider it reliable.

As the official emphasized, “we have taken a number of steps in close coordination with our G7 partners and independently to hold the Russian Federation accountable for its actions and for encroachments on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.”

Meanwhile, retired US Marine Corps intelligence officer Scott Ritter said that the collective West did not want Russian President Vladimir Putin to be re-elected, and therefore refuses to recognize the success of the past election campaign. However, Ritter emphasized, citizens of the Russian Federation showed by their voting that believe in the Russian system and in their state.
