Manchester united 0-3 Manchester city highlights

Erling Haaland piled the misery on Manchester United as Manchester City ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in the derby at Old Trafford.

Haaland converted the first penalty City have won at Old Trafford in the Premier League era after Rasmus Hojlund grabbing at Rodri on a set-piece was flagged by the VAR.

Scott McTominay drew a fine save out of Ederson during first-half-stoppage time, but Haaland gave United a mountain to climb early in the second half when he headed home a chipped cross from the excellent Bernardo Silva.

Haaland turned provider for Phil Foden 10 minutes from time, teeing up his colleague for a simple close-range finish as the on-field gulf between the Manchester clubs remained a chasm.

Man United (formation, right to left): 24. Andre Onana — 20. Diogo Dalot, 5. Harry Maguire, 35. Jonny Evans, 2. Victor Lindelof (15. Sergio Reguilon) — 14. Christian Eriksen (9. Anthony Martial), 39. Scott McTominay, 4. Sofyan Amrabat  (7. Mason Mount) — 8. Bruno Fernandes, 11. Rasmus Hojlund (17. Alejandro Garnacho), 10. Marcus Rashford.

Man City (formation, right to left): 31. Ederson (GK) — 2. Kyle Walker, 3. Ruben Dias, 24. Josko Gvardiol — 16. Rodri, 5. John Stones — 20. Bernardo Silva, 47. Phil Foden, 19. Julian Alvarez (8. Mateo Kovacic), 10. Jack Grealish (11. Jeremy Doku) — 9. Erling Haaland.

Players and fans from both teams paid a touching tribute to the late Bobby Charlton before kickoff and United started with impressive purpose despite Erik ten Hag fielding what looked like a makeshift defence.

That backline was tested when Andre Onana denied Foden from close range before pawing the rebound away from Haaland, but he was unable to thwart the Norwegian from 12 yards.

Onana, who saved a last-gasp penalty against Copenhagen in midweek, was booked for some kidology and timewasting before the kick. Haaland, who netted from the spot in midweek at Young Boys, kept his cool.

Hojlund passed up the opportunity to make amends from a one-on-one after the half-hour. In first-half stoppage time, both goalkeepers were to the fore as Ederson turned over a rasping attempt from McTominay before Onana brilliantly denied Haaland on the end of Silva’s cross.

It reflected very badly upon United and Ten Hag’s halftime reshuffle, which moved McTominay back into defensive midfield as Mason Mount replaced Sofyan Amrabat, when Haaland notched his 13th of the season from an almost identical move again featuring the irrepressible Silva.

An otherwise subdued Marcus Rashford snatched at a 69th-minute chance to bring United back into the contest and a mercilessly dominant City put the result beyond doubt, with boyhood fan Foden relishing applying the final touch to a commanding win.
